Dear Southern Ocean,
You have been kind to us today on the battlefield. We appreciate the rest after the epic gybe party. We were fortunate to have a good shift and overtake Dongfeng today so it looks like we are in the lead now. We had an early gybe on the front that seemed to work. But the battle is far from over.
You have eased up on us into the evening, the vibe on board is good and focus is stronger than ever. “A lot is going to happen over the next few days,” says Xabi, our Skipper. “There’s a gybe coming in, a little bit of less wind for a while then a lot of pressure coming from behind a strong southwesterly, again tough conditions, maybe not as windy, and then the approach to Melbourne which is always tricky as well so a lot is going to happen, opportunities will be there we just need to take them and be prepared to make some mistakes.”
Today we took the opportunity and the risk and it worked out. Tomorrow is another day, let’s see if we can remain as the hunted.
Oh yeah, one more thing, is there any way you can turn up the temperature?!
