The last few days have been crazy here on MAPFRE, we’ve done so many manoeuvres. It seems you enjoyed the gybing party so much you decided to have an encore today? My crew are fighting so hard and the vibe on board remains positive and focused.
The first ice exclusion zone we had to do almost 30 gybes and this morning we had to clear out of the safety zone doing another 10-12 gybes. You are definitely making my crew fight for it!
“We have to go south,” explains Xabi. “It’s a wall and we have to keep hitting this wall all the time because there’s more pressure and more shifts. That is why we have to do these gybes, it’s very hard but it pays off and finally we are free of gates so we can sail south the whole day and night and tomorrow morning we can gybe and start heading towards the North, towards Melbourne.”
We are happy to finally be heading north; it would be a wonderful gift if we could arrive by Christmas! What do you think, are you in the holiday spirit?
