We are third and just 800 nautical miles away from a podium finish. Conditions are really good and we are straight-line sailing to our final destination. We were reaching right until after lunchtime, then the wind shifted as expected and we are now close reaching.
There’s water on deck and with the temperature drops with every mile we sail southwards.
Three days of solid sailing lay ahead, as well as a high-pressure system which could be interesting to play. We are making miles upon the chasing group, while ours is really tight; some times we sail lower and quicker than the other two.
We remain in really good spirits and want to clinch that very much wished podium place. So far it’s been a tough leg with lots of breakages. The guys have pushed themselves to the limits, skipping off-watches and really keeping up with the very demanding work on deck.
We passed Vanuatu and are now sailing along New Caledonia. I sailed here a year and a half ago as well and have really good memories of it. I hope they bring us luck and help us finish in a good position.
At this stage the estimated date of arrival is quite accurate so the guys are devouring the best food supplies and I’ve changed the menu to the best one we can have.
At least these last three days we’ll have plenty of food, and that helps keep the spirits high!
