“This looks like a casino,” says Jean-Luc, watching the fleet all together. All the teams are in the same area – the first may be the last, but the last could be the first.
Dongfeng is to windward, Abu Dhabi to leeward and on the horizon we see Alvimedica, gradually getting closer from our group.
This couldn’t be more exciting. I was very impressed today after seeing the last sked, with all the boats aligned.
We can feel the rivalry and there’s no time for distractions. The fact is that just one gust can get you out of the Doldrums and can solve the race itself. The leg is on fire!
We’ve been fighting mile by mile together with Abu Dhabi and Dongfeng. We’ve taken advantage of these huge rain clouds, taking a shower and freshening up because the weather is too hot. Since there is no wind, you can feel the high temperatures even more.
We are in a good position to cross this transition area, wind permitting. The rest is in the hands of eight sailors who tirelessly work together, 24 hours a day. The aim – bring MAPFRE to the top of the podium.
