7,600 miles, extreme conditions and the legendary rounding of Cape Horn. Xabi Fernández’s crew are gearing up to face the start of one of the most eagerly-awaited legs in the round-the-world race this Sunday.

We spoke to MAPFRE skipper Xabi Fernández 48 hours after crossing the finish line in the City of Sails.
On Tuesday 27th February, MAPFRE crossed the finish line in third place in the City of Sails at 13:39h Spanish time, after an extremely tight head-to-head battle with Dongfeng and Turn The Tide On Plastic.
Our particular race with DF keeps being exhausting and we all know it is going to be that way the whole way to Auckland, let’s see how it finishes. Hopefully we can have Brunel on the battle too.
